Welcome to the Prescott Senior Softball Website!
The P.S.S. Organization was founded in 1990.
The first chairman was local resident Tom Tobin,
who has since passed away. An annual senior
softball slow-pitch tournament is held annually in
May in his honor...see
Tournaments and Events. The Organization is an Arizona non-profit corporation and is governed by a ten-member Board of Directors elected annually by the playing members. Current directors are listed below.
For the past several years, P.S.S. has consisted of approximately 200 softball players between the ages of 50 and 80+. Play is generally year-round and consists of two
Leagues. The "A", or green, League is generally made up of players ages 50-65 and is extremely competitive, while the "B", or blue, League is generally for players over the age of 65 and is more for pure recreation. There are some older players whose ability allows them to play on the "A" League, while younger players new to the game or who may be less competitive may play in the "B" League. Additionally, P.S.S. supports three Tournament Teams in the 55+, 60+, and 65+ age groups. These "All Star" teams participate in tournaments all over Arizona in addition to California, Nevada and Utah. Regular League Games are played every Monday and Thursday mornings at Pioneer Park (unless situations require the games to be moved elsewhere). The Cactus League is played during March and April. Players are assigned to teams and are evaluated as to playing ability during this period. In April, the Summer League managers actually draft their teams based on the ratings determined during the Cactus League. The Summer League runs from the end of April to early September, approximately 35 scheduled games. All teams are sponsored by local businesses and receive uniform shirts and caps. Following the regular summer session, a double elimination Championship Tournament is held in both Leagues. From October through December P.S.S. schedules a Fall League, similar to the Cactus League. During January and February the heartiest players will meet and play pick-up games, weather permitting. P.S.S. also sponsors a Summer Barbecue and a Fall Awards Banquet (see Tournaments and Events). New players interested in participating merely have to show up at Pioneer Park on Monday or Thursday mornings. They are assigned to a team as soon as the appropriate paperwork is completed.
