2011 Tournaments

Arizona Desert Classic
TheTalking Rock Ranch 60's played in the Arizona Desert Classic  at Rio Vista Park in Peoria, Arizona, December 3-4.  They finished with a record of 1-4.

World Championships
PSSA will be sending three teams to the World Championships in Phoenix in October.  The 50+ AAA Prescott Merchants, the 60+ AA Yavapai Cantinans, and the 70+ Kokopelli Scorpions will all be competing in their respective divisions October 14-16, 17-20, and 21-23.

Prescott Merchants Eliminated in World Championships
The Prescott Merchants 50's AAA team was eliminated during the second day of the World Championship games at Papago Park in Phoenix on October 22.  The Merchants went 1-2 on Friday, and then 0-2 the following day against teams from New Mexico, Illinois, California, and Georgia.  The division champions were Sports Center from Rhode Island, with Renda Roads of New Jersey the runner-up.  Rusty's of Arizona took third place in the 65+ Major division.

Yavapai Cantina Ousted in World Championships
The Yavapai Cantina 60's AA team, managed by Ernie Jones, finished with a 2-4 record in the World Championships in Phoenix October 14-15.  The team went 1-1 in the seeding rounds on Friday, then went 1-3 on Saturday in the elimination rounds at Papago Park in Phoenix.  Steel Dawgs of Ohio won the championship, and RCM of Arizona took second place.

KOKOPELLI EYE SCORPIONS WIN IN CAN/AM GAMES
The Kokopelli Scorpions 70's came out winners again in the Can/Am Senior World games in Mesquite, Nevada. The AAA Scorpion's bats came alive in this tournament by defeating three Major teams, and two AAA teams this past weekend October 7-9. The Major teams were the Michigana from Michigan, the Arizona Cardinals from Mesa, Arizona, and the Robson Ranch team from Sun Lakes, Phoenix. The AAA teams were the Naturals from Pennsylvania, and the Oregon Roadrunners. The Scorpions next tournament will be the World Senior Championship tournament in Phoenix October 17-20. The Scorpions will play Minesota Maters October 17 at 12:00 pm and then the Knapheide from Missouri at 1:30 pm. On October 18 the Scorpions will play the Mid-America Patriots from Kansas at 8:30 am and the San Antonio Crackers from Texas at 10:00 am. All games will be played at Cesar Chavez Park in Phoenix. The Scorpions will then play in the seeding competition to determine who will win the AAA 70+ division. The Scorpions will go for another championship ring and back-to-back championships.


Last Chance Qualifier
The Prescott Merchants won the AAA 50's division championship in the Last Chance Qualifier at Papago Park in Phoenix on Saturday and Sunday, October 1-2.  In the round-robin playoffs on Sunday, the Merchants defeated Santisi Brothers 18-16 in the first game, and then took the crown with a 24-22 victory over Advanced Auto in the championship game.  The Merchants are now preparing for the World Championships in Phoenix October 21-23.

Prescott Merchants Invitational Tournament
The Prescott Merchants 50's hosted an invitational tournament at Pioneer Park in Prescott on Sunday, September 18.   The Merchants finished in second place in their AAA division with a final record of 3-2, losing in the championship game to the Arizona Rangers by two runs.  The Talking Rock 65's of Prescott also played in their AAA division but finished with a 0-4 record.   Next up for the Merchants will be the Last Chance Qualifier in Phoenix, October 1-2, followed by the World Championships in Phoenix, October 21-23. 

Top Gun Tournament
The Kokopelli Eye Care Scorpions 70's went undefeated playing in the Top Gun Tournament in Escondido, California, August 26 -28.  In the double-elimination tournament, they defeated the Top Gun 70s, Fairway Ford, and the Top Gun Brass. The Scorpions next tournament will be in Mesquite, Nevada, October 7-9.  They will also play in the World Championships in Phoenix, Arizona, in October when they will attempt to make it consecutive championships as they play in the AAA division.   GO SCORPIONS!!!!

Mountain Madness II 
 The Prescott Merchants 50's played in the Mountain Madness II tournament in Flagstaff, Arizona, the weekend of August 20-21.  The Merchants went 2-1 on Saturday, then were ousted on Sunday in two close games during the double elimination round.   Next, the Merchants will be hosting a one-day invitational tournament in Prescott on Sunday, September 18.  More details on that event to follow...


Arizona State Championships 
The Prescott Merchants 50's played in the 2011 Arizona State Championships at Pioneer Park in Prescott the weekend of July 30-31.  The Merchants finished play with a record of 2-2 against some stiff competition.  Next up for the Merchants will be the Mountain Madness II tourney in Flagstaff August 20-21.  

Tom Tobin Tournament   
The Prescott Merchants 55's finished with a record of 1-3 in the Tom Tobin Tournament in Prescott the weekend of May 21-22.  The AAA-division Merchants had some close games against a competitive field that included some Major division teams.  

Southwest Championships
The Prescott Merchants 55's had a rough weekend playing in the AAA Division of the Southwest Championships in Laughlin, Nevada, April 15-16.    The Merchants lost all five of their games on Friday and Saturday.   On Friday, the Merchants lost to the Titans of California 15-13 and to the Drillers 55's of Texas 20-9.  On Saturday, they lost to Just For Fun 27-17 and to the Roadrunners 21-20.  In the final consolation game, they had a 7-run lead going into the last inning, only to fall 17-16 to CJ's.  The Desperados from Albuquerque, NM were the tournament champions. The Merchants hope to rebound in the Tom Tobin Tournament in Prescott May 21-22.

Gold Glove Classic 
The Prescott Merchants 55's were scheduled to play in the 2011 Gold Glove Classic in Phoenix the weekend of February 19-20.    Unfortunately, heavy rains and blustery conditions in the Phoenix area on Saturday forced the cancellation of all of their games for the weekend.  

Bauder's "Taste of Chicago" Invitational Tournament
Where and When: 
Saturday, March 5th at 9:00 AM at Cottonwood's Riverfront Park along the banks of the Verde River.    
Who: 
Six teams:  40's, 55's, 65's, 70's, B-League All-Stars, and the I-League All-Stars.   T-SHIRTS TO THE 1ST & 2ND PLACE TEAMS!
 
After the games, come and enjoy a cookout and the best BBQ beef and pork you have ever eaten at the HogWild Restaurant in downtown Cottonwood.  All PSSA players and their families are welcome.  The cost is $10 per person.  Everyone bring their own beverages.  Get your money in by March 3.  Contact Bill Bauder at 928.649.8205 for further details. 


2010 Tournament Results

KOKOPELLI SCORPIONS ARE 2010 WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!
The Kokopelli Scorpions 70's team went undefeated in the SSUSA World Championships in Phoenix, Arizona, October 18-21, to win their division.  The Scorpions played teams from Texas, Colorado, and Utah.  The tournament had over 300 teams in all divisions and drew more than 10,000 players and their families.  Congratulations to the Scorpions!  The Scorpions will receive championship rings and are now eligible to play in the Tournament of Champions in Florida in February 2011.   Next up for the Scorpions is the Winter World Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada, November 16-18.

Mountain Madness II Classic 
The Prescott Merchants 50's team  finished in third place in the annual Mountain Madness II  tournament in the cool pines of Flagstaff, Arizona the weekend of August 21-22.  The Merchants also took first place in the Arizona State Championships in Prescott, July 31st - Aug 1st on a rainy weekend.  

4th Annual Grant County Senior Softball Classic
Jay Kint's Prescott Outlaws travelling team played in the 4th Annual Grant County Senior Softball Classic in Silver City, New Mexico August 13-15.  The Outlaws ended up with a 1-4 record overall against some stiff competition.

Casa Grande 2010 Shoot-Out Classic
The Prescott Outlaw's 60's team travelled to Casa Grande, Arizona on April 10-11 to play in the Shoot-Out Classic at Hooper Park.   On Saturday, the team went 1-2 in three seeding games, then 0-2 on Sunday to finish with a record of 1-4 against some very tough competition.

2010 Top Gun Tournament at Palm Springs, CA
The Yavapai Cantina 60's team  travelled to Palm Springs to play at the Big League Dreams complex in Cathedral City in the Top Gun Tournament on April 24-25.  The Cantinas went 2-3 in the tourney against some stiff competition. 

Scorpions Win Gold Medal at Senior Games in Mesquite, Nevada!
The Kokopelli Scorpions 70's went undefeated in the Senior Games Tournament in Mesquite, Nevada, May 5-7.  The Scorpions played teams from California, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, and Mesquite, Nevada, and played very well, defeating all opponents.  The championship game was played Friday against the Utah team and the Scorpions stung the Utes 35-10 to win the Gold Medal. The Scorpion players were Bob Mucha, Pete Vargas, Larry Richey, George Harrell, Dick Nichols, Dave Stockwell, Ed Romero, R.J. Williams, Wayne Sutton, Russell Cooata, Rick Everett, Joe Siegele, Gary Smith, Fred Shatzer, and Robert Glick (General Manager).
